Product Description

We're all used to associating new HD home theater formats, like Blu-ray Disc, with high definition video. But what about HD audio? That's right, you heard us: HD audio. The expanded storage capacity of Blu-ray Disc allows for both Full HD 1080p video and 7.1-channel lossless, studio-quality surround sound audio. Now, just as you need an HDTV to experience 1080p video, so too do you need specific technology to take full advantage of 7.1-channel lossless audio. With its Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD Master Audio processing decoding technologies, the Marantz SR5004 is able to decode the lossless surround sound audio found on Blu-ray Disc, providing the audio experience the director intended for you to have. Further, Dolby's latest Pro Logic IIz decoding adds the ability to decode an additional two "front height" channels that dramatically expand the soundstage at the front of your home theater.

And now to the power

These days, there's no single reason that a person purchases an A/V receiver. While you're concerned with audio and video connectivity options as well as surround sound decoding, you're also looking for amplification performance. You want to know if the receiver can power your speakers, and how well. Now, we could say that the SR5004 receiver from Marantz delivers 90W x 7 channels of output power, and leave it at that . . . but we'd be leaving out the most important part: the quality of that power amplification. While the seven-channel in-line design uses voltage feedback for reduced distortion, independent analog and digital printed wiring boards minimize mutual interference. Additionally, a space-efficient and well-regulated EI-core transformer combines with an array of microfarad capacitors to provide instantaneous current delivery when a demanding source calls for it. Like we said, the rest of the story is pretty impressive.

The Audyssey suite

While some receivers offer a single Audyssey technology to adapt your audio system's performance to your listening area, the Marantz SR5004 serves up three. First, Audyssey Dynamic Volume compensates for level differences as you switch from source to source —  it even dampens the boisterous audio characteristic of commercials so it's not so overwhelming. Second, Dynamic EQ maintains the original bass-to-treble tonal balance of the audio regardless of how loudly or softly you play your favorite movies or music. Finally, Audyssey MultiEQ room calibration automatically evens the frequency response of your room and speakers for an audio experience customized to the unique characteristics of your listening area.

One device, many rooms

The term "home theater" doesn't refer to "a TV and some speakers in a living room"; it evokes audio and video throughout the home. While the SR5004 A/V receiver from Marantz is capable of delivering high-performance audio and video in your living room, it's also equipped to extend your audio experience beyond a single room. While Zone 2 L/R analog audio outputs allow you power a pair of speakers in a second area like the back yard, Zone 3 digital audio output lets you direct an audio signal to a receiver in a third room, such as the bedroom. Further, two included remotes allow for multi-room control.

Making all video HDTV-ready

Fear not, o ye of the enormous DVD collection: this new world of HD video, HDMI, and Blu-ray Discs condemns not your DVDs to oblivion. In fact, the SR5004 receiver improves them! Using advanced processing technology from i-Chips Technology, the SR5004 is capable of upconverting any component or composite video signal to HD 1080p levels via HDMI. Prepare yourself to rediscover your DVDs on your HDTV.

Improved audio, too

Sure, the compressed audio files you listen to on your portable MP3 player sound great over the in-ear headphones. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said when that audio is played over your home audio system. Because much of the high- and low-frequency audio that gives music a full, lifelike feel is removed in the compression process, these audio files leave something to be desired when heard over your home theater speakers. Well, that is, unless you have the SR5004 receiver with M-DAX technology. Marantz Dynamic Audio eXtender technology fills in missing audio frequencies, allowing you to enjoy a full, high-fidelity listening experience when playing compressed audio via the SR5004.

The advanced connectivity of HDMI

Bringing you the absolute best in connectivity, Marantz's SR5004 features three HDMI inputs and one output. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the only interface in consumer electronics that can carry both uncompressed high-definition (HD) video and uncompressed multi-channel audio in all HD formats including 720p, 1080i and even 1080p. Your incoming media content comes in a variety of sizes, resolutions and formats, and with that in mind, HDMI systems automatically configure to display that content in the most effective format. Since HDMI carries all channels on video and audio, there is only one cable to plug into any HDMI-enabled source and display device. No more complicated cable set-up when installing your home theater system, and no more ugly cable mess behind your components. HDMI supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on this single cable. Also, HDMI is fully backward-compatible with DVI. (Please note that a physical adapter, sold separately, is needed to make the conversion from HDMI to DVI.)
